Dual Enrollment

What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual enrollment is when a student is enrolled in two separate academic institutions (ALVA high school and a college). The classes taken in college count as college hours AND high school credit. The college class does take the place of the high school course.
Next Steps for Dual Enrollment
So, you have decided that dual enrollment is the direction your student will go. What do I do? If you were unable to attend a virtual meeting with our community college representatives, this will give you a general guide on next steps. Please review and let me know if you have any questions ([email protected])
1. Choose the community college your student will be attending. You can utilize this site to find local schools. https://www.accs.edu/community-college/find-college/
2. Contact the community college dual enrollment representative. This contact will be listed on the school website.
3. Review the programs offered in dual enrollment and which programs are covered by a CTE/Workforce Development scholarship.
4. Complete the dual enrollment admission application.
5. Gather required forms both for dual enrollment admission and scholarships, if necessary, and complete.
6. Any forms, that require a counselor, principal, and/or superintendent signature, should be completed and sent to Dionne Vandiber ([email protected]).
7. Once signatures are obtained, the form(s) will be returned to the student and college representative, along with the student’s transcript.
8. Register for classes with the community college dual enrollment representative.
9. Complete any additional paperwork that may need to be completed to ensure course registration and scholarship receipt.
10. Inform ALVA of the courses you will be attending.
11. Attend courses and when complete, send grades to ALVA. A minimum grade of a “C” must be earned to receive high school credit that counts toward student requirements.
