Alabama Virtual Academy at Eufaula (ALVA) is recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which enables our students to take courses that count toward the academic requirements needed to become a college athlete.

What is the NCAA?
The NCAA is an organization dedicated to the well-being and success of college athletes. The NCAA comprises several member schools that award nearly $3.5 billion in athletic scholarships yearly and provide vast support to help student-athletes graduate.
The NCAA consists of three divisions.
Division I
generally has the largest student body, athletics budgets, and number of athletic scholarships.
Division II
focuses more on academic achievement and service to the community.
Division II
maintains participation in a competitive athletics environment that still pushes academic excellence.
What does NCAA-approved mean?
NCAA schools require college-bound student-athletes to build a strong foundation of high school courses to prepare them for the academic expectations in college. ALVA, which the NCAA recognizes, offers high school courses that count toward the 16 NCAA-approved courses required to become a college athlete.
Student-athletes must also graduate from high school and earn a minimum GPA.

*Student athletes enrolled at ALVA may not be eligible to participate in sports through their local school district but can join and compete with local community or club teams.
